Russell Martin is a popular member of the Wanderers side who has made the right-back spot his own, having started his career as a central midfielder.
The former England Youth international signed from Brighton & Hove Albion in 2004 initially on a non contract basis, and despite being used mainly as a substitute or in the youth team, Russell impressed John Gorman enough to earn himself a full time contract the following summer.
His displays for the reserves in the early part of the next season demanded a first team opportunity and whether it be at full back, centre back or his preferred central midfield role, he turned in some excellent performances.
Russell also claimed the clubs 'Goal of the Season' in 2006 with an absolute screamer against Macclesfield Town and penned a new deal that summer which ties him to the club until June 2008. He made his 100th appearance for the club in 2007 and is one of the first names on Paul Lambert's team-sheet.
