Wanderers have started the Easter weekend in the best way possible thanks to a 1-0 win over Morecambe at Christie Park.
The only goal of the game came 36 minutes in thanks to a wonderful 30-yard free-kick courtesy of Stefan Oakes.
The game started brightly with both teams looking to stamp their authority on the game and Wanderers could have been behind in the first two minutes but Matthew Blinkhorn fired wide from 18 yards.
The Blues began to take control of the game and produced their first real chance on 19 minutes. Only a lick of paint kept the score to 0-0, Chris Herd got up high glanced the ball on but the post saved Morecambe on this occasion.
Morecambe were finding it difficult to break the Wanderers defence down with the likes of stand-in captain Mike Williamson and Leon Johnson putting in excellent performances.
Herd, who put another brilliant display, was running the show especially in the first half and he was the next to test the Morecambe goal. After chesting the ball down in tremendous fashion 25 yards from goal he left fly with his shot narrowly going over the bar.
The next shot on goal brought the opening goal and it was definitely worth waiting for.
Chris Herd was fouled 30 yards from goal and from the resulting free-kick Stefan Oakes stepped up and fired the ball into the top right-hand corner. The 330 visiting Wanderers fans went crazy in the terraced stand behind the opposite goal and Wanderers had a deserved lead on 36 minutes.
Wanderers were out in customary early fashion for the second half and that seemed to focus their mind on the job in hand, getting the three points and keeping up the pressure on the top three.
And the Blues could have doubled their lead on 49 minutes but Leon Knight couldn't quite reach Chris Herd's dangerous cross from the right.
In the lead up to the hour mark Wanderers piled on the pressure in search of the second goal with a series of corners but the closest they came in that spell was a header from Mike Williamson straight at Scott Davies in the Morecambe goal.
John Sutton came on for Scott McGleish on 65 minutes to try and freshen up the Wanderers attack, posing a different problem for the Shrimpers defence to deal with.
Frank Fielding was then called into action for the first time in the half on 73 minutes when substitute Carl Baker prodded the ball towards the goal, but the Blues keeper dealt with the effort with relative ease.
Wanderers so easily could have added to their lead in the final stages through John Sutton, who created a chance from nothing with five minutes to go, but in the end one goal was enough to take all three points back to Buckinghamshire.
