Wycombe fans' Player of The Season Leon Johnson has told wwfc.com that he would swap his award in an instant if it meant he could guarantee his side promotion.

'LJ' picked up the prestigious prize at the End of Season Awards Dinner on Tuesday night, but insists that his mind is still fully focussed on Saturday's semi-final at Edgeley Park.

"I wasn't expecting it at all, I thought it was going to be the Scott McGleish and Sergio Torres show!" he said.

"It was a big surprise but obviously I'm delighted by it. It's always nice to win something, especially in your first season but I'd definitely swap it all for promotion, all day long."

The centre back was one of 11 summer signings to walk through the door at Adams Park last summer, but has taken no time at all to settle into his new surroundings.

His rock solid defensive play has made him a firm favourite with the Blues faithful, though 'Jonno' was quick to shift the praise onto his team mates.

"Every single one of the lads deserves some kind of award, the whole team has been class and without them I would be nothing. It was great to see some of the youngsters get recognition, and Scott McGleish deserves every award that comes his way," Leon told us.

"Twenty six goals is unbelievable, it's really not easy to score goals at this level but he has been brilliant all season."

Anyone who takes a trip up the training ground this season can't have helped but notice the superb level of team spirit in the camp, and the banter was flying as usual as Leon reflected on a successful evening in the Vere Suite.

"To be fair the only award I thought was missing was one for 'Suck Up of The Season'," he joked.

"I won't name names, but one of the lads is always laughing a little too loudly at the gaffers' jokes, and will be at the front of every team meeting asking plenty of questions and nodding his head at everything the manager says. It's shocking really, I think next year they've got to get some kind of award for that!"

You may have to stay tuned to wwfc.com to find out who could be responsible for such shocking behaviour, but joking aside 'LJ' is insistent that the team are closer than ever as they prepare for the club's biggest game in recent memory.

"It's a great bunch of lads, we all get on really well and I think that's going to give us an edge. We will come together and give it everything we've got. Its been a long wait, you look at some of these Championship clubs and it's all done and dusted for them, their games are finished. You just want to get on with it, we're really up for this game."
