THE JAMIE YOUNG BLOG
By Jamie Young
Well hello again everyone! After a successful week of my first blog I am glad to bring you another week's worth of hilarity from the psyche of Jamie Young.
Over the last week there has been great interest in this from not only the fans but also the players as well. It's all been taken in good humour - as it's meant to be - and it's helped the last week go by with ease. As always there have been more things to talk about in the last week...but we'll get to that later.
From the aftermath of last week's article I obviously had plenty of banter with some of the lads, namely a Mr Shearer to be precise. I'm not sure if Shears has seen what I have wrote but some of the lads have been quick to fill him in much to my delight. So Shears said to me: "Why haven't I got my own column to say something?"
So he contacted Alan Parry with the same question and I'm not sure where it has gone from there. All I will say is; is everyone going to be after their own column as soon as I say something about them? I mean really? Do me a favour son. Just take the banter on the chin and get on with it!
Firstly, after another gruelling day's training this week, I was at home making some dinner when I got a call from my friend Marcus Hahnemann. He said "Bruce, what are you up to tonight?". (Apparently only Aussie guys have the name of Bruce). So I said I was making dinner and chilling out in front of the TV.

He asked me if I wanted to see the rock band Queens Of The Stone Age as they were playing in Reading that night, and I said: "I'm in - I'll be there in 40 minutes". The rest is history and they were awesome I'd have to say. Queens of the Stone Age aren't exactly my favourite band but I don't mind them and I'd have to be crazy to pass up free tickets to see them - I'm glad I didn't.
The next day, after another gruelling circuit with the academy physio Murray, I found out that one of the young players was late to report for training. This sparked Shears and I to scheme up a way of teaching him a lesson to never do that again. Two minutes later we had devised a task for him...one which was probably the funniest thing I have ever seen.
I can't tell you what the forfeit was, but I was crying with laughter. He took the banter very well and I think we all respect him more for doing that. Even though we were ripping him it was all good nature and things like this help the days go by quicker.
In terms of my injury I have come along way in a short amount of time. Most people think I have just torn my hamstring but that couldn't be further from the case. It's a lot worse than that and that's why I have been out for a lot longer period.

Basically what I have done is fully ruptured my tendon that joins from the bottom of my hamstring to the fibula on the outside of my leg. This tendon is called the bicep femaris tendon and basically it is a super strong rubber band that helps my hamstring contract among other things. I snapped it right where it attaches to the fibula so it retracted up my leg a bit which makes me sick thinking about it.
At first I was told I would be out for 4-6 months but after consultations with my surgeon he is confident that I should be back around Christmas/January. This couldn't be better news to me and I'm glad it's not far away.
I have a strength test on Monday and if that goes all well I've been advised that I can start to do some goalkeeping sessions with Laurence our goalkeeping coach. So going from when I did it to the point of now I am pleased with the progress I have made and hopefully if all goes well I can continue to progress to full fitness. But enough about me...
Last Friday I was in the treatment room after everyone had gone when Debs, our first team administrator, came in and announced that she had tickets for the Chelsea vs. Sunderland game.
I kinda debated it in my head as I have had a long week and I crave rest on my days off, but when she mentioned that they were in an executive box, I just said "how many can I get?"
I eventually got four after Will Antwi had two and said he couldn't be bothered. If you can't be bothered to see Chelsea with box tickets when will you ever be? So I went with some friends and thoroughly enjoyed it as I had never been to watch a Premiership game in all of the 7 years I have been in England, mainly due to being involved in games myself.
I had the added bonus of seeing my old team mate Steve Sidwell make an appearance and also catch up with my old youth team coach Brendan Rodgers who is now the reserve team manager there. I also learn Spanish with him occasionally as we have different schedules.
Brendan has been a huge influence on me since I have been here. I felt like he put a wing around me and made it easier for me to adjust to the culture over here. I remember spending one Christmas with him and his family and I'll never forget what he did for me while I have been here. So it's great to see him doing so well. Also if Chelsea ever need a goalkeeper he knows who to call!

So while I was at the game I received a text from Shears as always and he asked if I knew the score. I replied "2-0 to Chelsea." He sent back a message saying "No Jamie, the score of Wycombe vs. Stockport". I told him that I didn't. Then I got a hell of a surprise when I saw 6-0 appear on my phone. Ouch!
Obviously it's not a result that we wanted, but I do think it's something you can just say "ok it's gone now and we have to look at the next one". No-one in our team wanted that result to happen but as I said last week things happen in sport that you don't always expect and I guess this is one of them.
All we can do is look to the game and try to get a result and I'm sure the guys will. I know this result hurt the lads as I spoke to them and it would hurt me too if I was involved.
For me though I always think that you can never judge a team or a person when things are rosey. It's when they face adversity and things aren't going well is when you find out what they're about. I believe we'll come through this result with a bang. Of course we want to and we're going to have to if we're going to keep up with the rest of the top teams.
So I would say to the fans right now...WE NEED YOU MORE THAN EVER! This is where you show your worth to us. To help us through tough times and hopefully we can repay you back with some good results.
After the game I returned home enjoying the experience of Chelsea but also sad that my team had lost so badly, but I have to distance myself from that as it's hard enough as it is as I'm not involved directly. So the next thing on my agenda was Ricky Hatton.

I like boxing. I've always been interested in it since I was 18 - I stayed in digs with former British and Commonwealth heavyweight champion Michael Sprotts' trainer Ricky Maslin. I never realised how fit these guys are until I saw Michael train and I'm convinced that no one trains harder. It was truly phenomenal and I have so much respect for not only their physical attributes but also the mental side.
So back to Ricky Hatton. This fight will go down in history and obviously I am sad he has lost but it just shows how good Floyd Mayweather is. This fight was so hyped up - I think that it was one of those fights that everyone will remember where they were when it happened. I never really order these things on Sky but I felt it was like watching history unfold and so I decided to so. I think it was money well spent and I'm glad I watched it.
Well thanks again for reading this. I want you (the fans) to be as involved as much possible. So if there are any questions or anything please write in and I can answer them. If enough get involved maybe we can get some prizes sorted out. And once again get behind the boys we need your support.
Keep It Real!!!
