THE BIG MATCH CLOCKWATCH
By Matt Cecil
Wycombe 0-0 Barnet
Full-time:
Looks like the hectic Christmas schedule has caught up with the Blues, who weren't quite at their best this afternoon and were held to a goalless draw against a very well organised Barnet side. Full report and reaction to follow.
90+1mins:
Excellent defending by David McCracken as Jason Puncheon races clear of the defence. Cracks showed fantastic pace to get back and make a challenge inside the box and Puncheon was ready to shoot. Puncheon shoots straight at Douglas from range moments later.
90mins:
Three minutes to play, but I can't see a goal coming.
85mins:
So close! Stefan Oakes' rasping free kick bends just past the post from 25 yards after Sergio was brought down.
83mins:
The crowd is given as 4,818 at Adams Park today. Puncheon shoots wide from range on his right foot, while Scott McGleish's curling effort at the other end is a yard too high and wide.
80mins:
Oakes replaces Doherty, who has been booked, and hopefully Stef's range of passing and shooting ability can bring us a goal. Michael Leary is booked for a foul over on the far side but Russell's free-kick is cleared.
79mins:
Blooms is at the heart of everything! An excellent run and cross down the left is sliced out for a corner with Gary Holt lurking.
75mins:
Offside given as Scott McGleish puts the ball into the net after Bloomfield's shot was fumbled by Beckwith. Blooms did very well to create the chance, and McGleish thought he'd scored but the flag was up.
74mins:
Matt Bloomfield hits the post, as he cuts the ball back inside the box following a great through-ball, but the midfielder's effort bounces back off the woodwork.
71mins:
Craig Woodman is booked as Barnet win a free-kick 30 yards from goal, which hits the wall. Nicky Nicolau had been booked for the visitors two minutes earlier.
63mins:
The Valley Terrace is in great voice at the moment, as Wycombe are starting to push further forward. Tommy Doherty is pulling most of the strings in the midfield, and the ball's been bouncing around the box a couple of times. Leon Johnson heads straight at Beckwith from a Martin free-kick. Doherty sees yellow for dissent.
57mins:
Just as I said that, Barnet looked dangerous. Neal Bishop is standing out in the midfield, winning tackles and making some good passes, and Michael Leary's shot inside the box was blocked by Johnson. At the other end, Gary Holt's cross hit the bar and bounced out to Torres, whose shot was blocked on the line by Yakubu. It's livening up, folks.
54mins:
Well the tempo's been raised a little, and things might kick off in a while. Barnet are defending well in numbers, and it's frustrating to watch, but you can't blame them.
51mins:
A couple of niggly challenges, but still no goalscoring opportunities.
46mins:
We're underway again, with no changes for either side.
Half-time:
Martin's cross just before the whistle is headed away by Yakubu just as Sutton looked like getting there. Nothing else to report really in an uneventful half - join us in fifteen minutes where we hope to be able to report on some more entertaining affairs.
45mins:
Neal Bishop volleys wide from range - Rab Douglas looked to have it covered though. It's a funny situation really - it's been an uninspiring game but if we nick a goal somewhere, it could be three points and everyone will be happy.
42mins:
Russell Martin's teasing cross bounces just between the defence and keeper and Scott McGleish can't quite reach it at the back post.
40mins:
Matt Bloomfield's fierce effort is deflected wide for a corner, but Wycombe can't capitalise. It's not been a classic so far - that's the nicer way to put it.
31mins:
A couple of half chances for the Blues. Scott McGleish couldn't quite stretch to make decent contact with Russell Martin's cross, and Matt Bloomfield shows great strength before firing in a low cross, which was well held by the keeper with Sergio waiting to pounce.
24mins:
John Sutton heads wide at the near post from a Russell Martin free-kick, but it wasn't an easy chance. To be honest, this match isn't quite living up to the entertainment of Saturday's match at Shrewsbury, or the Boxing Day clash at Brentford, but there's still plenty of time.
18mins:
Matt Bloomfield fires over the bar from range. Barnet are getting numbers behind the ball when Wycombe are in possession and you just feel that it needs a higher tempo from the Blues to create the chances.
15mins:
Craig Woodman's corner is met by the head of Scott McGleish, whose glancing effort goes just past the far post.
12mins:
Michael Leary's shot from range is blocked, but Barnet look quite lively. Some of Wycombe's passing has been neat and attractive in the attacking third but neither side has looked like scoring at all.
3mins:
Barnet look like they've started with just one man, Cliff Akurang, up front, but the game hasn't brought about many noteworthy events yet. Wycombe's fans are in good voice, although it's perhaps not quite the bumper crowd we might have been hoping for. Sergio Torres connects with a Russell Martin corner but it goes over the bar.
1min:
A fantastically observed applause. Barnet are kicking off towards the home terrace, from left to right as I look out from the press box.
15:00
The teams are out and are about to take part in the minute's applause in memory of Paul Lambert's former team-mate Phil O'Donnell, who died on Saturday. Big Glyn Creaser is here at Adams Park today, having played for both sides. Come on Wycombe!
14:50
So team news sees Rab Douglas return in goal for the Blues, which has caused some puzzled faces, so let me explain. Rab returned to Leicester for personal reasons last month but is still registered to the Blues and is eligible to play today. Frank Fielding's loan ended yesterday and should be renewed tomorrow, so Rab steps in just for this game.
